FJR Bulkhead Fitting Installation
FJR Bulkhead Fitting Installation
Tuesday, 01 March 2016
Position of quick disconnect fitting.
Routing of hose.
Hose installed.
As you can see it's tight but can be accessed for putting the hose on.
Bulkhead fitting viewed from bottom.
Lots of pics to show positioning.
Fitting installed and sealed.
Position of bulkhead fitting prior to install.
I surveyed and surveyed to get pick a usable spot. This was where it ended up.
More detail of of the mark I made on the tank.
Here is the mark I made on the tank before I removed it.
Now siphon off any remaining fuel. I used a wrag to reach in a dry up the leftovers. Be careful here! Your hand may just barely fit in this opening and the edges are sharp. Your spouse or a young child would be a good helper here. :-)
Remove the fuel pump assembly being careful to not mess up the float assembly.
Here is that tab once I got it out. This is actually the stop for the fuel level sending unit arm.
Coming over the edge.
Using needle nose pliers I gently twisted this tab to get it over the edge of the tank. Be very careful!
Here was a puzzlement. I couldn't get the fuel pump out of the hole because this tab was sticking out. I tried every combination I could imagine for about 20 minutes. The solution is next.
Retaining ring removed.
Remove the bolts from the fuel pump retaining ring. Note position of fuel pump for reinstallation.
Once the tank is off, you need to siphon off as much fuel as you can.
I actually shot these photos during the installation, which is exactly reverse of removal.
Looking under the tank after all the wires and hoses have been removed.
Same but from other side.
Front retaining bolts removed. Rear retaining bolt loosened. Tank tipped up and propped to provide access to hoses to be removed.
Detail of what the grommet looks like. BIG NOTE! Just behind this grommet is the space for the bulkhead fitting. After you remove this panel you may want to get a sharpie and trace this opening (see later pic of my marks).
Rubber grommet retaining mechanism at this end. Pull gently to pop pin out of grommet.
Screws removed.
Phillips head (black) and Hex head (silver) screws holding trim panel.
